Teaching Catholicism in schools reduces fanaticism, Ugandan education authorities say

Ugandan education authorities have robustly defended the employing of Catholicism within the national education system, following a social media complaint alleging that schools were exclusively teaching Catholic doctrines to children.

Ugandan pupils which education give Catholicism to combat fanaticism

Dr Asuman Lukwago, Permanent Secretary at the Education Services Commission, dismissed the complaint without requesting evidence, instead commending the positive impact of integrating Catholicism into the curriculum.

He asserted that such exposure fosters good citizenship and reduces fanaticism. "What is the problem with that?" Dr Lukwago questioned this week. "It is better to allow your children to be exposed to a variety of knowledge about God, and this will make them better global citizens, and reduce fanaticism."

The initial complaint, which asked "Schools are teaching Catholicism to our children. Want evidence?", originated from an individual who had recently posted a video in a local Ugandan language criticising the teaching of Catholic doctrines in schools.

The evidence cited was a primary school examination paper from western Uganda for the end of the second term.

The examination required pupils to draw items used in baptism, specifically a candle, rosary, and a cup of water, all of which are typically associated with Roman Catholic baptism rites of pouring of water on the forehead.

The complainant argued that it was betrayal to favour the Roman Catholic Church by using public funds and institutions to propagate its catholic doctrines, particularly to young people across the country.

Dr Lukwago's response can suggest that he views Catholicism in the education system as a means to cultivate good citizens and mitigate fanaticism and in this context, other belief are perceived as potential sources of fanaticism, which Catholicism is believed to counteract.

Dr Lukwago's X (formerly Twitter) account prominently features Roman Catholic beliefs regarding the dead and includes images of high-ranking Roman Catholic priests, including the head of the Vatican.

According to the complaint video, a headteacher from one of the schools acknowledged the pervasive presence of Catholicism in the school curriculum, particulary stating that what is termed as "religious education" in schools is all about Catholic doctrines.

The Roman Catholic Church is the dominant denomination in Uganda, accounting for almost 40 per cent of the population.

The Anglican Church, Evangelicals, and Muslims share the remaining 60 per cent.

The Seventh-day Adventists, which would holds beliefs distinct from the Roman Catholic Church, represent only two per cent of the population, with some regions lacking any professed Seventh-day Adventists.

Uganda's religious history indicates that Catholicism was never welcome in central and western Uganda until the Protestant kings of Buganda and Bunyoro were exiled and subsequently died in exile.

Pastor weighs in on Uganda’s cleaning mandate on Sabbaths

Pastor weights in on Uganda’s cleaning mandate on Sabbaths

Pastor Immanuel Ogwal, the Africa Regional Director at Adventist World Radio (AWR) wrote an open letter to the church leadership in Uganda and the church at large, voicing concerns about the government's cleaning mandate held on Sabbaths and what was called exemption for the Seventh-day Adventists.

Faith Reporters obtained a copy and this is what it says:

A concern about the Sabbath exemption and the precedent we may be setting

By Pastor Immanuel Ogwal

Adventist World Radio (AWR) Africa Region Director

...................

I commend the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda for engaging the Government on the issue of communal cleaning scheduled for the last Sabbath of the month.

I understand that, following these engagements with the Prime Minister, Adventists have been granted an exemption, with the understanding that we may undertake the cleaning on Sunday instead.

I appreciate the effort made by our church leaders. However, I have a concern that I believe deserves thoughtful consideration.

According to the arrangement communicated, while others participate in communal cleaning on the Sabbath, Adventists are expected to remain at home from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and only begin travelling to church at 10:00 a.m.

This is where my concern begins.

Are we now allowing the State to determine how we should use the hours of the Sabbath?

Our Sabbath School in many Adventist churches begins at around 8:30 a.m., followed by the Divine Service at approximately 10:30 a.m., often continuing until 12:30 p.m.

If members are only expected to leave their homes at 10:00 a.m., what happens to Sabbath School? And with the realities of traffic, especially in our cities, what time will many members actually arrive at church?

More importantly, I worry about the principle involved.

If the government has agreed to exempt Adventists from an activity that conflicts with our Sabbath observance, I believe the exemption should simply mean we are exempt from the activity.

It should not necessarily mean that the government determines when we may leave our homes, travel to church, or participate in Sabbath worship.

I may be forgiven for being apprehensive that this could be a “throwing-a-stone-into-the-bush-to-see-what-will-come-out” situation.

Today it may be a restriction from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Tomorrow, what might be the next condition attached to our religious observance?

I am not suggesting that anyone has bad intentions. Neither am I trying to be alarmist. But as Adventists, we should be particularly sensitive to precedents concerning the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is not merely a day on which we avoid certain activities. It is sacred time dedicated to God.

If the State is willing to exempt us from work or communal activity because of our religious conviction, that is welcome.

But I would be uncomfortable with an arrangement that effectively places restrictions on how and when we worship during the Sabbath.

And there is another question worth asking: Will those who observe Sunday as their day of worship also be restricted from travelling to church between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday while Adventists undertake the cleaning?

This question is important because religious freedom should protect the exercise of faith, rather than prescribe how that faith should be practised.

For me, this is where the prophetic dimension becomes difficult to ignore.

Daniel 7:25 speaks of a power that would seek to “change times and law.” I do not quote this verse to declare that this particular situation is the fulfilment of that prophecy, nor do I intend to create unnecessary alarm. But I believe the principle should make us spiritually watchful.

The sanctity of the Sabbath is greater than legislation, bylaws, decrees, administrative arrangements or guidelines. Its authority comes from God and Scripture.

Therefore, while I commend our church leaders for engaging the government and securing an exemption, I pray that in seeking practical accommodation, we will not inadvertently establish a precedent that compromises the sanctity and freedom of Sabbath observance.

Perhaps this is a small matter. But sometimes the most significant principles are tested first in seemingly small matters.

May we continue to engage the government respectfully, while at the same time guarding faithfully the sacredness of the Sabbath entrusted to us by God.

The End

Our Advocate's message in the judgement hour

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,” Saying with a loud voice,

Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. (Revelation 14:6-7)

Both the everlasting gospel and the gospel of the kingdom promised in Matthew 24:14 are proclaimed to all peoples at the close of world history. It is a blessing that all of us have an opportunity to hear this message at such a time. We could be among the last individuals Jesus brings into His kingdom before His ministry to save mankind concludes.

Fear God and give glory to Him:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. God wants us to have a sense of fear to disobey Him. A sense of reverence for God and His law is the first step towards discovering God's ways and His kingdom. Without this reverence for the law, one cannot truly comprehend Jesus' work.

We must reach a point of beholding God's laws in their holiness, recognising our own sinful nature and the condemnation His holy law places upon sinners like us. This realisation is the genuine path to understanding Jesus' redemption and surrendering to His righteousness. To fear God, therefore, is to reverence His laws, acknowledging His holiness.

No government or workplace should have more influence over our life than the sense of reverence to God. We must regard His laws as holy and perfect, and pray to the Lord Jesus to grant us victory over sin, knowing that sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). This is how we truly fear God.

Paul explained that holy living encompasses eating and drinking, as well as all other spheres of life. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).The everlasting gospel for the end times calls us to a standard where we do not defile our body through what we eat or drink, nor through unclean conversations and "setting wicked things before [our] eyes" (Psalms 101:3). It urges us to avoid anything that does not glorify God in our daily life. We should abstain from stimulants, alcohol, drugs, pork, and all products processed from them. A higher calling encourages a plant-based diet. Moreover, six days of our weekly labour should be guided by the principle of glorifying God.

This is how Scripture describes those who accept this message: "Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." (Revelation 14:12)

God’s commandments are the standard by which God judges our character. Have faith to observe God's law, for "without faith it is impossible to please Him" (Hebrews 11:6). True faith will lead us to live righteously, It will also cause us to believe in God’s prophecies and adhere to every point of God’s word even when the evidence appears contrary. That is true faith. It is different from the self-confidence in being saved even when you doubt God’s ways and warnings shown in His word. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for [prophesies and promises], the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrew 11:1).

Through the first angel's message, men are called upon to "fear God, and give glory to Him" and to worship Him as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. In order to do this, they must obey His law. Says the wise man: "Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Without obedience to His commandments, no worship can be pleasing to God.

Indeed, "This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments" (1 John 5:3). The Commandments of God reveal love and God is love. As we actively seek to keep the commandments, it demonstrates that we value and desire the character of God.

We cannot be at one with God while we do not first acknowledge our sinfulness in comparison to God’s law. There is no deliverance from sin while we remain indifferent to the holiness of God’s character revealed in His law. We can not receive Jesus without a desperate longing to be transformed into the likeness of His perfect character. Finally, we cannot be transformed if we do not have faith in Jesus’s ability to make us in His likeness and walk by faith in obedience.

The time for God's judgement

The announcement, "The hour of His judgment is come," points to the closing work of Christ for the salvation of men. It is an urgent call declared with a loud voice (Revelation 14:7). This urgency stems from the fact that the 2,300 years (prophetic days, where 1 day is a year) mentioned in Daniel 8:14 ended in 1844. The cleansing of the sanctuary spoken of in Daniel 8:14 refers to a time of judgment, a type of the Day of Atonement first observed by the Israelites (Leviticus 23:27-32). It points to the work of Christ in removing sin from the heart of man and bringing us back to complete oneness in spirit and purpose with God. Thus, the time since 1844 is critical for fully embracing the righteousness of God offered to humankind.

Many already know that Jesus' return is near, but how many times have we considered the judgments that must conclude before His return? Jesus will complete His judgment, and by the time He returns, our eternal destiny will have been decided. It will be time for the reward to be given (Matthew 20:1-6; Revelation 22:12).

The everlasting gospel must be understood in its fullness because these are the end times. The books of record are opened in the judgment, the lives of all are coming in review before God. Beginning with those who first lived upon the earth, our Advocate Jesus Christ presents the cases of each successive generation, and closes with the living. Every name is mentioned; every case closely investigated. Only those who choose to be clothed with Christ’s garment of righteousness will not have their names blotted out of the book of life (Revelation 3:5).

This is to be a time of solemn heart-searching. The duty devolves upon everyone to consider, to watch, and to pray. We are not bidden by the Lord to examine our neighbour's heart. Let our investigative powers be put to work to discover what evil is lurking in our own heart, what defects are in our character, and what work needs to be done in our own home. We then need to receive the grace of God, which is His power to reveal the character of Christ in us (Ephesians 3:7-9).

Worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters

The first angel emphasises that reverence stemming from our acknowledgement of God as our Creator is the only one that prepares us for the time of His judgement.

The emphasis on the creation of heaven, earth, sea, and fountains of water reflects the very words of the fourth commandment, the one that speaks on the seventh-day Sabbath. This first angel reminds us of the fourth commandment whereby "in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. " (Exodus 20:11)

The reference to creation and the invoking of the seventh-day Sabbath commandment in the first angel’s message at the hour of God’s judgment is critical. It is only as we believe in God’s ability to create that we can trust in His ability to recreate us into the likeness of His sinless character. Moreover, only as we recognise that God alone can make anything holy will we trust Him with the responsibility of making us holy as we seek to obey Him. As God said, “Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you” (Exodus 31:13).

The understanding of worship has drifted to mean mere initiation of praise to attain emotional relief. God wants us to focus on true Biblical worship, which is remembering the Sabbath and thus the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8), who should also be our Lord. That is the worship that should be elevated at the hour of His judgement.

The seventh-day Sabbath is a point of controversy, but we ought to choose God's law over man's law (Acts 5:29). Governments, institutions, and individuals have disregarded God and His commandments. In many countries it is considered normal to force students to attend school on the Sabbath, or for governments to hold events requiring citizen attendance on the Sabbath. Even religions encourage the transgression of God's law, presenting themselves as not guilty but the Lord will not hold them guiltless.

Beloved, we pray, by God's grace, that a biblical perspective on Christian living emerges in you as we await our Lord Jesus. There was a time when you were indifferent because light had not yet come, and the Lord was still forming us as individuals and the Church itself. But now we are in the end times. Just as God created everything and saw that it was good after the week of creation, perfection should be manifest in us through Christ. Victory over sin cannot be attained when we disregard God's commandments, while we remain in rebellion.

What if the authorities are in the bandwagon of the ungodly?

Set aside the common perception on the Book of Psalms as mere sources of comfort when facing challenges with your friends.

(By the way, first read Psalm 1 in your Bible to be able to follow the flow of this article.)

Flags of nations. Faith Reporters
By Kelly Rwamapera

The first Psalm, like the rest of scripture, transcends our daily interactions; it illustrates the great controversy between good and evil—the forces of Jesus versus those of the devil in a real-life struggle.

The psalm presents two opposing groups in the world: the righteous and the ungodly, which includes sinners and the scornful in one bandwagon. (Verse 1)

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

The psalm makes it clear that there is a group referred to as the “ungodly,” who create ideas (counsel) and spread them among people, forming a bandwagon of the ungodly.

Those who follow the guidance of the ungodly are labeled as sinners and scornful.

The other group, mentioned right at the start, is the “Blessed.” This group is also identified as the righteous in verse five and acts in stark contrast to the bandwagon of the ungodly.

The psalmist explains that what distinguishes the Blessed from the sinners and the scornful is their love for spending time in the word of God, referred to as the law of the LORD. The psalmist states:

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night”, verse two say.

This verse suggests that while the Blessed find joy in the law of the LORD, the sinners and the scornful occupy themselves with superficial distractions, such as television series, films, and government advice disseminated through the news or the prevailing “follow-the-science” mentality.

Recall the reason the Athenians failed to recognize God in Acts 17? They “spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing”, according to Acts 17:21.

This reflects the situation of the sinners mentioned in Psalm 1. While the Blessed delights in following God (even if they do not understand everything), the others are preoccupied with the distractions set before them by the ungodly.

The psalm illustrates the blessings bestowed by the Lord on those who find joy in His word and reject the deceptive ideas of the ungodly. It describes a state akin to the Garden of Eden, representing the restoration of God's beauty within oneself.

Verse three states, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

In contrast, the psalm warns of the ungodly, sinners, and scornful individuals who follow the crowd, comparing them to chaff that is blown away by the wind, ultimately facing judgment and eternal destruction.

“The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish,” declares verses four to six.

The Prophet Jeremiah echoes this sentiment regarding those who heed the advice of mere mortals. As mentioned earlier, figures such as your government, professor, or boss, who claim to influence your life, are simply people or groups of people.

“Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD,” Jeremiah 17:5 warns.

While some may interpret this as merely trusting friends and neighbors, it extends far beyond to trusting governments, pharmaceutical companies, and technological devices.

The Prophet Jeremiah also contrasts those who follow man with those who follow the Lord in Psalms 1.

To those who heed the counsel of men, he states: “For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited,” Jeremiah 17:6.

Conversely, to those who delight in the law of the Lord, he says: “For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit,” Jeremiah 17:8.

Conclusion:

We are living in a world where governments and corporations have collaborated with entities such as the United Nations, the World Economic Forum and the blessing of their priest in the Vatican, to impose decisions on individuals regarding every aspect of life, from personal health to the fundamental right of citizenship.

Where is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly?

Biometric IDs, digital currency and the aftermath

Citizenship is not defined by biometric data. The governments are committing crimes by requiring citizens to submit biometric information in order to receive identification documentation as citizens

The Rwandan government mandated bio metric identification upon citizens, using the latest anthropometric tools in the 1920-30s. [Photo: https://gened.org/ten-steps/]

By Kelly Rwamapera

The Bible says that discretion preserves individuals (Proverbs 2:11). As the scroll of end time events continues to unroll (LDE 17.2), it is wise for individuals to examine everything with discretion in order to make informed decisions.

The right identification of a citizen

The Apostle Paul demonstrated his Roman citizenship while imprisoned in Macedonia (Acts 16:37). Citizenship is rooted in one’s origin, shared historical experiences, and the place of birth within the boundaries designated by God for habitation (Acts 17:26).

Paul was granted Roman citizenship because he was born in Tarsus, in modern-day Turkey (Acts 21:39), at a time when it was part of the Roman Empire.

Thus, he became a Roman citizen by virtue of his birthplace (Acts 22:28). Paul's citizenship rights did not arise from the government's possession of his biometric information.

No people pursuing righteousness living have ever surrendered their biometric information in order to get citizenship documents.

Governments claim that they "follow science," but so did Hitler's Nazi. Globalists can create narratives in the name of science

Such narratives often fail to stand the test of time.

In the early 1900s, governments relied on then famous scientific theories, including evolution, informing the elites of the world instigate the idea of collecting biometric data for identification purposes.

The infamous Hitler’s Nazi party and the government of Rwanda in Central Africa got obsessed with the collecting biometric data from people.

In the 1920s, the Rwandan government mandated the collection of biometric data for citizen identification. The latest anthropometric tools captured facial features, specifically the eyes and nose.

Everyone had to get an identification document and the associated rights only after surrendering the body for biometric data collection.

The outcome was that the government, made of both civil and religious authorities, identified specific groups, after the biometric identification had made it easy to track them.

In 1931, the government banished a segment of the Tutsi elite population, including King Musinga, who had refused to convert to Roman Catholicism, culminating into Tutsi massacres from 1959 to the 1994 genocide.

History provides ample evidence that crimes against ethnic groups or individuals differing in ideology often occur following the collection of biometric data for identification, particularly under the guise of citizenship verification.

Every individual must understand that citizenship is not defined by biometric data. The governments are committing crimes by requiring citizens to submit biometric information in order to receive identification documentation as citizens.

Everyone should make personal decisions regarding his/ her own body. Everyone in positions of power must accept that collecting biometric data has no justification regarding citizenship.

Citizenship and the rights to identification documents must depend on origin and place of birth. Imposing biometric identification is both a crime and a sin.

God will bring every work into judgment (Ecclesiastes 12:14).

To own nothing

A certain government once seized both wealth and the people themselves: the Pharaoh of Egypt made citizens to owned nothing.

While he prepared for the famine that would follow the seven years of abundance (Gen 41:48), it was a means to take the people’s silver, the currency of the time, into “Pharaoh’s house” (Gen 47:14), a centralized government system that controlled currency and the economy.

Land, money, and the bodies of the people became Pharaoh's possessions (Genesis 47:18). The people lost their rights as citizens within the borders God had granted them, as “he [Pharaoh] moved them into cities” (Genesis 47:21).

Who can escape even today’s Pharaoh

Theo only people who escaped the government’s enslavement were Joseph's brothers, God’s people at that time. But freedom started after reconciliation with Joseph.

When he realized they were overwhelmed by the guilt for their sin, he revealed himself, forgave them, and accepted them. He advised them on how to live in Goshen away from Pharaoh’s oppression (Gen 46:34).

The book Patriarchs and Prophets draws parallels between Joseph and Christ. The salvation of God’s people (Jacob’s house) depended on their reconciliation with Joseph.

The Apostle Paul urges, “Be ye reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). All people must come to fully see how responsible we are for the death of the Son of God.

Christ, "who knew not sin", died because of your sin, and without His sacrifice, you would face eternal death.

Just as Joseph’s brothers admitted their sin and reconciled with him, so we too must understand our guilt and repent.

Plan a meeting with a Seventh-day Adventist and discuss present-day truth and righteousness by faith.

Three points to note

The wise men of the world confirm that governments have surrendered their citizens to global players. After the COVID-19 and vaccine mandates which did not fully achieve the world “counsel”, global players seek to establish a system with complete control over people to be a sustainable means for enforcing global agendas upon nations and individuals in the future including mandatory vaccines and one world religion.

History shows that biometric identification and centralized control of money and the economy are tools for enslaving those who comply and at the same time persecuting dissenters.

The Bible depicts rulers compelling people into worship through a number system that controls buying and selling. The term "digital" originates from "digit," meaning number (Rev13:17).
