The Open Doors will release their 2022 Religious Freedom report called the World Watch List tomorrow Wednesday 19th January 2022, which documents countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.
Most of the countries where Christianity was in 2021 are in North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, according to Open Doors/ Faith Reporters |
The Netherlands-based organisation categorises 50 Christian persecutor countries on earth
into two: “Extreme Persecution” and “Very High Persecution” without detailing whether they are Protestants or
Catholics.
Last year's World Watch List, cited in the annual report by
the United States Commission
on International Religious Freedom, ranked
North Korea as the leading country in persecution Christians.
According to the comments on the organisation's tweet about the
event, most predictions maintain North Korea in the first position as a
Christianity persecutor.
Faith Reporters can also predict that India, which
ranked 10th in extreme persecuting countries, is likely to be in the first five
because of the severe Christian persecution reported there last year.
Malaysia, Myanmar and China, which ranked 46th, 18th and 17th
respectively in the last year's World Watch List, are also likely to more steps
into the red line due to persecution of Christians which was recorded last
year.
Most of the countries where the Open Doors documented Christian
persecution in the last year's report are in the 10/40 window apart from
Mexico, Columbia and a couple in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The 10/40 Window is the area between 10-40 degrees north of the equator in the eastern hemisphere, covering North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, the part of the world that has over 90 percent of the world's population.
The 2021 Open Doors World Watch List/ Faith Reporters |
Last year's report shows that eight of the
dozen countries where the most extreme persecution was manifest in 2020 were
Asian and the Middle East countries while the four were North African countries.
Comoros, the country with less than a million people, was the 50th
Christian persecutor in the last year's report, after three years without
appearing in the report.
The island nation in the Indian Ocean belonging to East Africa was
reported for prohibiting its 0.5 percent Christian population from sharing
their faith freely in the Islam-dominated nation.
