Three men who were arrested in late September 2021 in Northern Ireland’s Dundalk for preaching against homosexuality will appear before the Dundalk District Court next week on Wednesday 13 October 2021.
The street preachers Ryan Williamson, 44, Robert Ervine, 34, and Sean Paul Tully, 43, were approached by police while preaching in public in Dundalk town, telling them to stop preaching against homosexuality but they refused and the police arrested them.
According to the News Letter, the police (called the Gardai) took the three men from where they were preaching with a public address system to Dundalk Garda (Police) Station for several hours before being released.
The Guarda (Police) Spokesman in the area told the News Letter that the trio was charged with public order offences in a market square in Dundalk and would appear before the court on 13 October 2021.
If convicted, the three can face punishments of up to two years in prison and fines of up to £500 according to the Public Order Act of 1951 of the Island country part of the United Kingdom.
News reports show Northen Ireland’s desire to stop preachers from preaching against homosexuality is increasing and officials have been approaching preachers advising them to stop talking against homosexuality.
Lawyers are arguing that the Irish constitution gives freedom to preachers to preach about their convictions and that no formal complaint has been submitted to authorities against the preaching against homosexuality.
