Afghanistan ranked the leading persecutor of Christians 2022/ Faith Reporters |
The Middle East country, Afghanistan,
ranked number one Christian persecutor for the first time while the Asian country, North Korea, ranked the second after being on top for two
decades.
The report said that persecution of Christians severely increased in Afghanistan in August when the Taliban took over the country they had been tormenting for the last twenty years.
"Christian persecution is extreme in all spheres of public and private life. The risk of discovery has only increased since the Taliban controls every aspect of government," the report noted.
The report explained that although North Korea ranked
second from first as usual, the Kim Jong-Un government's hatred for the Chritian faith actually increased and considers Christians as
enemies of the state.
"The persecution score for North Korea actually
went up, even though its ranking went down," the report said adding that
"North Korean parents often hide their faith from their children;
capture or death is only a mistake away".
Other countries that appeared in the World Watch List
in the most extreme persecution list of eleven are Somalia, Libya, Yemen,
Eritrea, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, India and Saudi Arabia.
