The Adventist heads of state

Very few people know that there are several heads of state who are Seventh-day Adventists (SDA), standing in the world’s most prone area that absorbs peculiarity faith into the generality of the common good.

(Upper row): Papua New Guinean’s Premier James Marape, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness (Lower row): Haiti’s Prime Minister Dr Henry Ariel and Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema (Master Guide).

The SDA Church message calls people to come out of generality and be a peculiar people while one of the principles of politicians is to stay in the line of generality and the common good.

Here are some of the SDA heads of state we have been able to identify, you may help us know more others:

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema, Papua New Guinean’s Premier James Marape and Haiti’s Prime Minister Dr Henry Ariel.

Heads of state and senior government officials in different countries, often don’t publicly get involved in events identical to the SDA church or its Three Angels’ Message which can attract criticism from the other side.

For instance, we don’t know when Prime Minister Holness last wished his fellow Adventists a happy Sabbath but never forgets to wish “Christians” happy seasons including the Ash Wednesday season for the Roman Catholics.

In his three-thread tweet with an illustrative image, the Premier Holness today explains the history, significance and centrality of what is called the Lent period to the world of the people he calls “Christians”

“Have a blessed season of Lent and a restful and reflective Ash Wednesday Jamaica” he concluded.

The Zambian President Hichilema recently celebrated a day dedicated to the Roman Catholic Saint Valentine after which he visited the Vatican moreover on the seventh-day of the week, the Sabbath.

Premier Holness, his counterparts Dr Ariel of Haiti and Marape of Papua New Guinea rarely post messages about their faith but do great acts in line with the other religions.

To mention Sabbath is dividing people but to go to the Vatican is bringing people together.

To show reverence to Bible is causing divisions among people while celebrating valentine and Ash Wednesday is good for the people.

When the SDA Church has a day of prayer for Ukraine, none of them retweeted or liked the message while the Church dared to defend President Hichilema defended him when he was criticised by fellow Adventists for visiting the Vatican.

It’s a general problem of us all, that we don’t identify ourselves with the church where we work when in the actual sense God put us where we are to preach to the people around us.

This means that an opportunity like the Master Guide Hichilema got to visit the Vatican would be used to preach to the unmarried men in the city on the seven hills
