Google’s
giant video platform YouTube has terminated the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA)
world church YouTube channel for alleged violation of YouTube community
guidelines.
The channel was
terminated on Monday last week, according to the Adventist world church tweet today
5th March 2022.
“On Mon February
28, YouTube informed us they had terminated our channel. We had never received
any warning or strike prior to this full termination” the SDA said in a tweet
this Sabbath.
According to the
notice from YouTube shared by the organisation on their Twitter handle, YouTube
found “severe or repeated violations of community guidelines” by the Channel.
The Adventist
Church denies the violations of the YouTube guidelines, claiming that the channel
only promotes religious content.
“As a global
religious organisation, we would never promote anything other than Christ centred
religious content,” the church said in a tweet today, Sabbath.
The tweet also
tells the chronology of the events that led to the termination and the response
of the Adventist Church to YouTube.
On Sunday 27th
February 2022, the Adventist Channel logo and the channel changed to those of a digital currency business and live-streamed a call for investing in the business.
“Hackers changed
the logo and channel name to 'SpaceX' and started live-streaming. The text
on-screen included digital wallet addresses for viewers to ‘invest’" the
church tweeted today.
The church’s technical
team restored the channel “to its proper name and visual identity” on the same
day after the interruption that took about half an hour.
On Monday 28th February, the YouTube channel removed the organisation’s channel without any warning or
strike as the organisation put it in a tweet.
The organisation
filed an appeal to YouTube on the same day but did not get any response and
filed a second appeal yesterday on Friday.
“Our team has
just filed another appeal with more documentation and details to help our
friends at YouTube realize how important our channel is to our world church
community,” the organisation said.
The Seventh-day Adventist
YouTube Channel in Poland has also suffered the same attack by digital currency
scammers this week with YouTube removing their channel.
Over the course
of last week, the church’s social media accounts have displeased the Adventist community
with posts that did not rate Adventism.
The Adventist
Today reviewed the church’s social media and reported in a story “Taking the
Bitter with the Tweet: Adventist Church Criticized for Social Media Posts” that
it was as if the church’s social media was being run by non-Adventists.
“Adventist Today contacted the General Conference, which is responsible for the @AdventistChurch Twitter account, for information on who posted the tweets, but had not received a reply [by press time]”.
