The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked the USA for a no-fly zone over Ukraine to protect his country from Russian bombardment and a new world order that responds quickly to conflicts and disasters.

In a virtual
address to the Congress today for 35 minutes, Zelenskyy drove his points home
with rhetoric identical to the USA statesmen and historic moments of defending
western civilisation.
A no-fly zone
Zelenskyy borrowed
the rhetoric of the US Protestant Baptist Pastor Martin Luther King Jr rhetoric
“I have a dream” which he used as “I have a need”.
“I have a need.
a need to protect our sky. I need your help in the same way you would respond when
you heard ‘I have a dream” he said, reminding the Congress of the Pearl Harbour
attack of 1941 and the 9/11 attacks.
Zelenskyy played
a video, an emotional video of peace and green Ukrainian cities before images
of Russian bombardment and destruction of both lives and infrastructure.
Raging of fires
and graphic images of human blood, dead and burnt people including women and
children, appealed to the USA to “close the sky over Ukraine”.
“Is it too much
to ask for a no-fly zone?” President Zelenskyy asked adding that “If this is
too much to ask, we offer an alternative”, asking for aircraft that can compete
with Russians’.
“You know that [these
aircraft] exist and you have them. They’re on earth but not in the Ukrainian sky.
The aircraft are not defending our people” he said.
A new world
order to forge peace
President
Zelenskyy, as someone who leads a country that has suffered aggression from
Russia, proposed a new world order that can respond proportionately to the
scale and speed of a conflict or disaster better than the current United
Nations.
“We propose the creation
of a nations’ body, U24 [to be] a union of responsible countries that have the
strength and conscience to stop conflict immediately and provide all the
necessary assistance in 24 hours,” he said.
He also tackled incidents
that cause human suffering such as natural and manmade disasters which he said
can also be met with his proposed nations’ body, the U24.
“Such union will
provide assistance to those who are experiencing natural and man-made disasters
who fall victims to humanitarian crises or epidemics,” he said.
To drive his
point home, Zelenskyy gave an example of Covid which he said could easily be defeated
if there was a body such as his proposed U24.
“Remember how difficult
it was for the world just to do the simplest thing; just to avail covid vaccines
save lives and prevent new strains. The world spent months and years” he said.
“Ladies and
gentlemen, Americans,” he pleaded “if such alliance existed today, the U24, we
would be able to save thousands of lives in our country; in many countries of
the world who need peace and those who suffer inhumane destruction”.
Zelenskyy presented
Ukraine as the 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae that guarded Europe
from the Persian aggression that would change the course of western civilisation
forever.
“Today the Ukrainian
people are not only defending Ukraine we’re fighting for the values of Europe
and the world, sacrificing our lives in the name of the future”.
Recently, Kira
Rudyk the Ukrainian parliamentarian told Fox News that Ukraine was not only
defending its soil but defending democracy and the New World Order.
The world leader
of peace
President Zelenskyy’s
speech far stretched from the microcosm of the conflict in his country and
tacked world answers to peace, calling on President Biden to his philosophy
that a world leader is a leader of peace.
“As the leader
of my people, the great Ukrainians, and as the leader of my nation, I’m
addressing President Biden: you’re the leader of your great nation. I wish you
to be the leader of the world. Being the leader of the world means being the
leader of peace” he concluded.
