Are we destined for reset or revival of Protestantism and Republicanism?

What is uncommonly known is the source of the freedom the United States of America has had and spread across the globe in the last 500 years and as to whether the world is heading to a reset as it was before freedom or revival of the Reformation that brought freedom.

The truth is, the liberties and freedoms we have practically enjoyed are to a greater extent owed the winds of Protestantism that brought to the knowledge of people the tent of dark tyranny that the Roman Catholic Church had covered the world with.

In summary, Protestantism breeds republicanism and freedoms and liberties thereof while the opposite of Protestantism is one man’s government who has the power to kill and seal whom he wants.

Many know that when people are free to their conscience, civilisation sprouts and civilisation is a threat to the individuals or institutions whose interest is power as we’re going to see in the next few paragraphs.

Before the rising of Protestant Reformation through Martin Luther in Germany and the subsequent audacity by John Calvin, King Henry VIII in France and William Tyndale in England, the Roman Catholic Church ruled the conscience of men including dictating how to practice Christianity.

For a thousand years until the 1500s, the Roman Catholic Church killed fifty million people for not being Christians or practicing Christianity differently from the way the popes dictated.

Because freedom of conscience was held captive, there were no civil liberties and freedoms were unheard of; civilisation fell at the blood-dripping paws of the Roman Catholic Church during its rule also called the Dark Ages.

Martin Luther wasn’t the first to resist the Roman Catholic Church; very many had tried but the men in cassocks who had authority over state authorities condemned them to death for defying the laws of the man who calls himself “holy”.

Martin Luther’s resistance succeed as a Reformation mainly because it attracted the attention of state authorities in England and France’s King Henry started refusing the Pope’s orders for the first time in over 1000 years, a king murdered by a catholic monk.

But the English had already tasted freedom and could not accept a setback and men such as William Tyndale discovered that to know scriptures would liberate people from looking to the Vatican for God’s message.

"I defy the pope, and all his laws; and if God spares my life, ere many years, I will cause the boy that driveth the plough to know more of the Scriptures than does the pope" Tyndale once replied to a fellow who had said that "We had better be without God's laws than the Pope's.", to which Tyndale responded:

Tyndale ventured into translating the Bible which further vexed the institution of the papacy, seeing that people God’s Word would reveal the errors in the church’s syllabus and impart a sense of freedom of conscience.

All the men who pioneered the Reformation and those who followed them were killed by strangulation and being burnt on sticks, the same that way the Romans killed the resistant jews.

In fact, if Protestants believed in the authority of the dead, they would have more million saints to pray to than the catholic church.

About 100 years after the start of the Reformation in 1603, King James ascended the English throne, endorsed and supported the translation of the Holy Scriptures into English, an official translation named after him [King James Bible], translated by over 50 (some documents say 70) greatest scholars of the time for seven years.

This first official Bible translation into the world was a sharp sword into the ribs of the Roman Catholic Church which had condemned thousands of English men, women and children to death for only citing Bible verses.

The Roman Catholic Church, the oppressor, had lost grip over the English and was threatened to lose in Europe and in the whole world as we’re going to see.

The Roman Catholic Church had an important seat at Lisbon in Portugal until both earthquake and tsunami ripped and swept the city on the day of the church’s cult, the All Saints Day (November 1) 1755, another factor the decline of the popes’ influence in Europe.

The final humiliating defeat came when Napoleon Bonaparte, having grown up in the grievances the Catholic Bourbon Monarchy inflicted the Frenchmen, held the then pope captive and died in prison in 1799, so ended the French Revolution.

Meanwhile, as God did not permit King David to build his temple but his son Solomon, so did He not permit England to lead in the dispensation of Freedoms in the world but England’s son the United States of America.

It is 504 years since the course of civilisation in civil liberties and freedoms started with Martin Luther on 31^st October 1517 when he protested against the Catholic Church that had oppressed the consciences of men.

The next episode explores the great controversy between freedom and oppression and how the United States of America became the custodian of freedoms and liberties, whose Protestant principles were incompatible with the League of Nations, leading to where we are now.

Is the world heading to the great reset to be as it was before Reformation or do we expect the great awakening for the revival of the Reformation ideas?

Stories of ordeal from the unvaccinated in Rwanda

I have learnt of families that were locked inside their houses on conditions that they would go out only after they have accepted vaccination.

Others are in custody for not accepting vaccination and many who, after being overcome by the inhuman treatment by authorities, have accepted to have the substance they feared into their bodies to buy their freedom from custody.

I have learnt about many squatting in bushes and thickets while others have crossed crocodile-infested rivers into the jungles in the neighbouring countries.

Some have been intercepted in any way by Rwandan authorities as they try to cross the borders, a country that has a long history of its people finding refuge in the neighbouring countries.

The stories

Last week, the government of Rwanda in Central Africa started implementing measures that restrict the unvaccinated from accessing essential services including public transport.

As a Kigali City dweller, little did I know that the hunting of the unvaccinated in the rural areas had been hailing at least for the last one month.

The new government directives made me try to share with people in rural areas my experience of the restrictions against the unvaccinated in the capital Kigali but instead found that some rural areas in Rwanda had the worst stories of the ordeal.

For the past week, I have not stepped in a tax park, bus stop, or bus because I’m forbidden from them due to being unvaccinated, considered to be a threat to the health of those who were vaccinated with the immunity to resist the disease.

Let me reserve my story and share with you the worst stories I collected from the rural areas as I get ready for the infliction to reach me as well.

I learnt that during the Thursday night, authorities rounded up households of the unvaccinated in Kabarore, a town in north-Eastern Rwanda and took scores of household heads to custody.

I have not heard of such operations in Kigali but it might be a nationwide crackdown because I have heard of a similar operation in Karongi in Western Rwanda.

Stories are told of an agenda to order all landlords in Kigali to send away all tenants who do not have proof of vaccination in the city where there is a steadily developing loath for the unvaccinated.

A group succeeded in crossing the crocodile-infested R. Akagera into Tanzania to hide from the run against them in Rwanda but one of them, a teacher, was arrested while his wife who was also a teacher and their children made it across.

Tanzania is Rwanda’s neighbour in the East nearly forty times bigger than Rwanda where, like other immediate neighbours of Rwanda, there is no run or segregation against the unvaccinated.

In the northeast, households are being rounded up with authorities and put strong locks on the house doors, telling the families that they can only get out after accepting vaccination.

Due to impossible monitoring of each family locked up in the house, households break their houses and flee into the darkness of the night never to be seen again or arrested hiding.

Enforcement capacity

The tiny country has a long history of effective monitoring of its people developed from the fear that its children in neighbouring countries can attack using relatives within the country.

This makes it important for authorities to develop a system that monitors its people effectively and the system improves with every new government that topples the other.

The country administration is very effective in monitoring its citizens using local authorities just like Communist China’s public monitoring technology works.

There is a local authority representative among every 10 or fewer households who monitors and reports about each household under their jurisdiction, leaving no room for the escape of any government programme.

Hate speech against the unvaccinated: Rwanda isolates its unvaccinated citizens

Episode two: My experience with the media and journalists' behaviour towards the unvaccinated in Rwanda on the day the government started enforcing measures against the unvaccinated in Rwanda.

My name is Kelly Rwamapera, about 40 years old, a father of three, a journalist and a proud Protestant.

It is Monday 20^th December 2021 the day the Government of Rwanda started enforcing the directives that restrict the unvaccinated from accessing services including restaurants, bars, churches, public transport and many public services.

A famous YouTube Channel among the Adventist community in the country (Itabaza TV) has contacted me for an interview to comment on, among other things, whether Coronavirus vaccination is mandatory or optional in Rwanda and my opinion on what it should be.

It’s not my first time to be hosted on this YouTube Channel TV, not because I know much but mainly because few are willing to say anything contrary to the adamant government directives.

People are also scared by the image of assassinated character the media has created for anyone who dares to mention people’s rights to their own bodies, so they silently disagree.

My schedules are easy to make because I have no job; we plan to have the interview in the afternoon before a meeting I'm to have with someone in the evening.

But as usual, I wake up early and go to the press house where there are free computers and the internet to read news and write something for this blog.

I find a few journalists in the vibrant newsroom where both knowledgeable and poor journalists come together.

They all know that I’m not vaccinated and they ask me what am I going to do as the government steadily tightens its iron fist on the unvaccinated.

I tell them that I knew the uncouth directives would come and mention some more to come and that I’m ready to fall into the abyss that the government has dug for its unvaccinated people.

The journalists throw jokes at me, mentioning some other journalists who have not yet been vaccinated, good jokes actually one will definitely miss when the newsroom gets infested with the idea that the unvaccinated are a threat to the vaccinated bodies.

One journalist, Louise, a very good friend of mine, in fact, one who recently gave me money to take back my children to school, stands up and warns that the government will not tolerate those who don’t want to get the jabs because of the “primitive faiths”.

As a law student in Kigali and owner of a law reporting media house in Rwanda, I would expect her to remember the Nuremberg Code and Rwanda’s law regarding consent to medication which we have often discussed together in the newsroom several times.

Some journalists show remorse at the fate that awaits the unvaccinated while others like my friend Charles laugh to scorn.

Journalists tend to stand in the middle between the public and the government but in this case of vaccination, journalists such as Ingabire a news anchor at the national television go far to suggest to the police spokesman to get somewhere to lock the unvaccinated, unethically showing her support for a story of one party in a story she is telling the public.

The Youngman Sammy, the owner of Itabaza TV comes to tell me that he will not advertise the interview via his social media, that he had not yet got a good title that cannot alarm authorities.

During the interview, Sammy draws us into commenting on a letter a teacher who refused vaccination wrote to the local authorities who had asked for his explanation why he refused vaccination.

The teacher in a rural school was arguing that he wasn’t feeling comfortable getting vaccinated because his conscience told him that the act of limiting the unvaccinated from selling or buying was evident that the vaccination has something to do with the Biblical Image of the Beast.

My argument is that authorities and those who do not have reverence for the authority of the Holy Scripture should look at the teacher’s statement as his natural convictions from one’s conscience, any sensible authority has to respect.

After the interview, I board a motorcycle to go to a meeting with someone. Motorcycles have not been stopped from transporting the unvaccinated.

Rwanda locks its unvaccinated citizens, my personal experience

Episode One: Omens of danger passed, it’s too late now

My name is Kelly Rwamapera, nearly forty years old, a father of three from one wife. We’ve had several addresses in Kigali since 2014 when I joined journalism.

This story is told from my perspective as someone who fears being vaccinated with the Coronavirus vaccine and is still ready not to trade my freedom of conscience with fear for the inhuman treatment in store.

It is a personal experience and my family since the government’s move to block services to the unvaccinated.

As I’m writing this, it is two hours into Wednesday 22^nd December 2021 and I have not been able to get some sleep.

Just an hour before, we’ve exchanged some angry words with my wife, blaming each other for delaying the plan we had to flee Kigali City to the countryside where the situation for the unvaccinated could be tolerable.

The cabinet passed the directives on Friday 17^th December 2021 to limit services the unvaccinated can access including restaurants, hotels, bars, churches, and many more that were not mentioned in the scary yellow papers.

We discussed with my wife that it was high time we left Kigali as we had started seeing the omens of darkness in the skies of Kigali just like we knew it would happen.

We don’t own land or house or anything in the countryside but we have been aware of the approaching paws of him who hunts human beings’ freedom of conscience and decisions on their bodies.

All people in this tiny country live in settlement villages where the directives directly sweep from the front through the backyard but we had hope that one can easily escape to the fenced hills for the sake of being free to make the decisions we want for our bodies.

On Sunday, another directive came from the prime minister’s office that even public transport from Kigali was only for the vaccinated although the whole public transport system in the country started respecting the directive that was for only movements from or to Kigali.

I was at work when I learnt about this and called my wife to inform her of the abrupt change, asking her to speed up the process to move us. I suggested we hire a private car to take her and the children.

She was not prepared to go on Monday and even Tuesday, suggesting that she would leave on Friday 24^th December 2021 as I stay in Kigali, finishing up some little things before I join them as well.

A few hours before we entered into this day Wednesday, a friend in the countryside who had prepared us a house we would enter called to tell us that he had heard that even private cars have been barred from going upcountry.

we slept with this bad news in our ears so we abruptly found ourselves talking about our sealed fate in Kigali, with her blaming me for not taking up the responsibility of a man to take them quickly while I blamed her for not speeding up what we had agreed that would execute.

As we exchange the words, I discover she righter than me, that I somehow behaved like Lot who thought his wife understood the magnitude of danger in delay like he did until the last point.

Rwanda makes move to lock its unvaccinated citizens

The government of Rwanda has restricted its unvaccinated citizen from accessing restaurants, hotels, bars, churches, public transport and several public services, becoming the first African country to reach thus far in implementing covid restrictions.

The cabinet passed the measures on Friday 17 December 2021 and will be implemented starting today Monday 20^th December 2021 in the tiny central African country which is also in the East African Community bloc.

Authorities have been noticing the private sector and churches to implement the government measures, to first confirm if one is fully vaccinated before they are given services in Kigali and other urban centres in the country.

Public transport was accessible to the unvaccinated but it has also been curtailed this Monday, restricting movements from the capital Kigali to the countryside in this country where nearly 60 percent live on less than $1 and fourteenth poorest country in the world, according to the World Bank 2021.

Meanwhile, public and private institutions have been writing letters of dismissal of all staff who are not vaccinated throughout last week in this country where fully vaccination means having had three jabs.

The smallest country in its region was also the first country in Africa to impose lockdown on 21 March 2020 followed by two more other nationwide lockdowns and dozens of them imposed on cities, regions, districts, towns and villages.

Currently, according to official figures, 32 per cent of the population (over 4million) are vaccinated and authorities have been blaming “radical” bible believers, with a single case of a Seventh-day Adventist or Pentecostal amplified to represent all who are not accepting the vaccines.

According to the Encyclopaedia of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Rwanda had over 800,000 Adventists in 2017 after the great Total Membership Involvement evangelism which converted 100000 people in Rwanda.

The SDA church has officially disowned those who don’t want to be vaccinated as doing it on their own and called upon church followers to get vaccinated as a way of godly care for their own bodies.

The country’s active umbrella of religions along with police, health ministry and local government have been mobilising people to get vaccinated.

Pastor Ted Wilson condemns the 1943 act of denying medication to an African American at Washington Sanitarium

Pastor Ted Wilson, the president at the General Conference at the Seventh-day Adventist Church has condemned the 1943 act of racial segregation against an African-American woman who was denied medication at the Adventist Washington Sanitarium health facility.

While at the event that recognised Lucy (Lucille Byard) at South Asian Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, Elder Wilson expressed remorse for the act of sending away a fellow Seventh-day Adventist woman who wanted treatment from the church’s health ministry facility.

“This was a reprehensible action and should never have happened since as Christians we are to serve and treat people with respect, dignity, love, and care as Jesus did,” Elder Wilson remorsefully wrote on his Twitter account on Friday evening.

Elder Wilson called the event of 22nd September 1943 “a very important event that helped to bring about a correcting of a very sad chapter in the church” in the presence of Lisa Sweeney-Walker, a grand niece of Lucy Byard.

Elder Wilson urged Adventists to embrace reconciliation, arguing that it’s part of the Adventist three angels’ message, especially where it calls for the true worship of God by all people regardless of who they are.

“We are to be part of God’s ministry of reconciliation as outlined by Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. This is part of the three angels’ messages pointing people back to the true worship of God and family living in connection with Him” he noted.

The event that saw the announcement of new scholarships for African-American nursing students was organised by the Adventist Health Care and the White Oak Medical Center, an outgrowth facility of the Washington Adventist Hospital where Lucy was denied health services.

The Genesis

According to the Encylopedia of the Seventh-day Adventists, Lucy was born on 22 September 1877 in Petersburg, Virginia, to parents who were both born into slavery over a decade before the emancipation of African-Americans brought by the American Civil War.

Lucy did not go beyond the second year of high school, marrying Charles W. Lewis in Pennsylvania in 1899 and later moved to New York City where her husband became a chauffeur of a wealthy family.

In New York, Lucy become a Seventh-day Adventist at the age of 25 in 1902, becoming one of the few black Adventists in the city moreover instrumental in preaching to many African-Americans in the city.

After two decades of barrenness, the husband Lewis died at the age of 40 in 1922, leaving her alone until six years later on 23rd September 1928 (the day after her birthday) when she married a 58-year old twice-widower with five children James Henry Byard at the First Harlem Seventh-day Adventist Church.

At the age of 66 in 1943, Lucy developed liver cancer which the couple decided to be treated at Washington Sanitarium, asking a fellow black pastor Jeter E. Cox at Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church to write a letter of introduction they would present to the church hospital.

Pastor Cox exchanged letters and information about the coverage of medical bills with the Washington Sanitarium administrators who accepted to admit Lucy.

Unfortunately, when they got there on Wednesday 22^nd September 1943 (her birthday), the hospital refused to receive them, citing that it “was against the law of the State of Maryland to admit coloured people into the Sanitarium”.

The Encyclopedia of the Seventh-day Adventist quotes the letter the husband James sent to Pastor Cox as below:

We, after much effort, arrived in Washington by rail and went directly to the [Washington Adventist] Sanitarium. I went to the office and informed them that I was Mr. James Byard, of Jamaica, Long Island, and that Elder Cox had made reservations for my sick wife. The attendant acknowledged my reservation, went out and spoke to my wife and proceeded upstairs. He returned shortly and called me into the office, and told me that he regretted to say this, but it was against the law of the State of Maryland to admit coloured people into the Sanitarium.

I, of course, was stunned, for my wife had been looking forward with much anticipation to going to this particular Sanitarium, because she felt that she would be among her own people. There would be an understanding among them that she could not expect in an outside hospital.

In fact, her hopes were so high that her health was much better than it had been for days, and she even suffered the tiresome and painful train ride because of the expected destination. I warned the attendant of my wife’s condition, and reminded him that she needed immediate attention; also that I was not acquainted with any hospital in Washington, D.C., hoping that he might examine her and find out her critical state, but to no avail. I was utterly confused and tried to get in touch with you, but was unsuccessful. The attendant recommended me to Freedman’s Hospital and assured me that she would be accepted there. He called a taxi, told the driver the hospital to take us to, and my wife and I were driven away.

The Encyclopedia of the Seventh-day Adventists further states that “If what James said was true—that Lucy’s ‘hopes were so high that her health was much better than it had been for days’—then her spirits undoubtedly sagged after she was turned away by ‘her own people’”

Lucille Byard succumbed to liver cancer at Freedman’s Hospital on 30th October 1943.

Followup story: Back to the church where 16 died in lightning strike in Central Africa

Nearly four years ago, on Sabbath 11 March 2018, lightning killed 16 Seventh-day Adventists at Nyarunazi SDA Church in Southern Rwanda, an hour drive to the country's border with Burundi.

140 people were hopitalised and about 40 families lost loved ones in this Central African state in East Central Division, among the deceased included children, mothers and young men and women who were arranging marriages.

Faith Reporters revisits this tragic story in this remote and impoverished community and talked to the church elders, health workers and local authorities who gave an impression of recovery amid raw scars.

“It was a special day. We had already announced that there would be a delay at church to enjoy songs from a visiting choir” Elder Berchimas Habimana told Faith Reporters on Thursday 2^nd December 2021.

“It started raining with some hailstone” he added, “such that we could not hear the special item that precedes the preacher, so we stopped the choir to resume the song after the rain subsided”

The church elder reached the organists on one side of the pulpit to ask them to play hymns for the church to sing along as they waited for the rain to subside because of the noise from the iron sheets on a church with no ceiling.

“I was at the pulpit when I saw a flash from the roof striking the congregation, spreading its web on people as if it wanted to lift them in a net. It was terrifying” he said.

Elder Habimana said that the whole congregation in this church that had no lightning rod fell to the ground apart from him and few at the pulpit.

“We all lost our senses for minutes as if we didn’t know where we were, looking at the fallen congregation in the rising dust as if the church had collapsed,” he said.

The ambulances came and took 140 people to two health facilities from where 15 dead bodies were brought back for burial the following day on Sunday.

One young woman who was arranging a marriage with a young man who died instantly in the church remained at the hospital for a month in the hospital before she succumbed to injuries and agony.

“She was brought to the burial in an ambulance but stayed at the hospital for a month. The young man they were preparing to marry left a new house in which they were going to stay together in”

One of the residents and a community health worker and one of the people who lived near the church told Faith Reporters today 5^th December 2021 that so far, many are recovering from the trauma.

“There are two mothers who lost their babies in the accident. It took longer for them to mentally recover but are now doing well, with the grace of God” said Marceline Mukamana.

Mukamana explained that one mother in her late thirties who was so traumatized started gaining some hope when she became pregnant a few months later.

“One day, the nurse told her that she was pregnant. She started gaining some hope that God was recompensing her loss” Mukamana said.

Mukamana, who is not an Adventist said the whole community saw faith in the bereaved.

“We could offer some days digging in their fields to occupy them and encourage them”.

Currently, there is a new church, about 150 yards on an elevated hill away from the church which was struck by the lightning.

Members found it unbecoming to renovate the struck church or build another in the same place where the accident happened for fear that people would be traumatized to stand on the same ground where they survived the death that took their loved ones.

Italian city Florence to name its street after Ellen White

Florence City in Italy announced to name one of its streets after the Seventh-day Adventist reformist Ellen Gould White, according to Hope Media Italia.

The Italian Adventist University (also called Istituto Adventista di Cultura Biblica) Villa Aurora is located along the street to be named Ellen Gould White Street on 10^th December 2021 from Viuzzo del Pergolino.

The Italian Adventist University Villa Aurora also has been in Florence since the 1940s where it offers bachelor's and master's degrees in theology and Italian culture and language.

Italian Adventist University is the only buildings of Villa Aurora that overlook the street in question.

On the occasion of the naming ceremony of the street, the Ellen G. White Study and Documentation Center will also be inaugurated on campus at the current library, according to Hope Media Italia.

It is the Italian Adventist University that suggested to Florence Municipality authorities to name the street on which the university is located after Ellen G. White,

The naming reflects the Roman culture of honouring the important people who especially died by naming places after them.

The Municipality considered reasons including the fact that the institution was established on the property so long ago in 1947, making the university vibrant in the city.

The authorities, according to Hope Media Italia, also accepted to rename the street due to the social responsibility acts of the university hosting caretakers of patients hospitalised in the nearby hospital.

There has been another street called via del Pergolino in the city which people have been confusing with viuzzo del Pergolino, so authorities found it worth renaming one to differentiate it from the other.

Likewise, in 2015, the city of La Romana in the southeast Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean Islands, named one of its streets after Ellen G. White.

Ellen Gould Harmon White was one of the founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a reformist after the great disappointment of 1844 when the Baptist William Miller and several others expected Jesus to return.

She wrote scores of books also called the Spirit of Prophesy by the Adventist church including the famous Great Controversy (also recently renamed The Great Hope) which gives a panoramic view of the battle between good and evil for the last 2000 years.
